Mariah's Fun Lunches - Princess and Minnie Mouse

Last week I was able to have my cute friend, Mariah over to play a few days while her mom was out of town.  

While she was here I made some fun lunches for her.  I showed her some pictures of lunches I have made for the kids before and she thought the princess sounded like a god idea, so on Wednesday that is what we made.

She had a Ham, Turkey and Cheese Sandwich Princess.  I cut a circle and a crown shape then added some cheese for hair.  I used a toy ring and some princess gummies for jewels in the crown.  I used food markers to color the eyes blue like Mariah's and I also used the food markers to draw the nose and mouth.  I made a sceptor for the princess with a Pocky Stick and some fruit leather cut into a  heart shape.  Mariah also had some princess gummies, goldfish crackers and grapes as her jewels.  I put a few princess cupcake picks in her grapes too.

She was so excited and could not believe her eyes when I showed her her lunch.  She was very hesistant to even eat the sandwich because she didn't want to mess it up.  It was fun to make her a surprise lunch!

On Friday she came to play again and this time I suggested we have a Minnie Mouse lunch.  I have had this Mickey Mouse Cookie cutter for a long time and have never used it.  I am not even sure where I got it.  

It is a little bigger than a slice of bread, so I made a ham and turkey quesadilla and then cut it out of that.

I served it to Mariah with some grapes, goldfish and some princess gummies.

I had the leftover parts of the quesadilla and decided it would be fun to make the cut out look like Mickey Mouse

I used grapes for the ears and a food marker to write on the plate for the face.

Turkey Lunch

It's the first day of November!  Time to start packing Thanksgiving lunches for the kids!  

Today Ady wanted to eat the school lunch, but Tayden decided to take his lunch.  He thought Ady's Batty lunch from yesterday was pretty awesome and wanted something fun like that.  I suggested a Turkey and he thought that would be fun.

I made a turkey and cheese quesadilla and then cut it out with a turkey cookie cutter.  I actually was able to cut out two turkeys so they are stacked together.  I used food markers to color it in a little.  The turkey is on a bed of spinach that Tayden will probably not eat, but a little of it might get stuck to the turkey ;)  {I actually was surprised this week when I made Super Green Smoothies (frozen banana and spinach) and he liked them!  Maybe he is developing a taste for spinach after all!}

I also cut out some apples to be fall leaves.  They ended up looking a little like bats, so I used food markers on those as well to make them look more distinct.

Tayden wanted to take a piece of his Halloween Candy and then I also gave him some Rainbow Goldfish crackers, which have nice fall colors.

Batty Lunch

Happy Halloween Everyone! 

 

Here is Ady's last Halloween lunch for the year.  I found this great Bat Cookie cutter at the Thrift store for a quarter when I was shopping for Halloween Costumes!  Ady thought it would make an awesome Ham and Cheese Quesadilla so we made a her lunch bat themed today. 

She had the Quesadilla on a bed of Rainbow Goldfish Crackers and she also has some apples cut in to bat shapes, grapes on bat picks and some bat marshmallows with some graham sticks underneath.

A few more Halloween Lunches

On Thursday night Ady wanted to help with dinner.  She decided to make Muffin Tin Meals and to make them Halloween themed.  We had Strawberries, grapes and raspberries on Halloween picks, carrots and celery with ranch to dip them in.  A baggette with cat shaped cheese, yogurt with Halloween sprinkles, chicken nuggets with a bat shaped cheese and honey mustard to dip them in.

Here is Ady's lunchbox from Friday.  She wanted  a mini Halloween meal.  She has mini saltine crackers with mini pepperoni and ham and cheese cut into tiny circles.  She also wanted some fruit on Halloween picks.  I also gave her some graham cracker sticks with a few Hershey kisses and some Halloween marshmallows for a treat.

Star Wars Lunches

 

On Thursday Ady and Tayden had Star Wars lunches. 

I found these fun Star Wars Party Rings and Light Saber Cupcake Picks and when they arrived in the mail, Tayden was excited to have a Star Wars lunch.  I wasn't sure if Ady would want one, but when I mentioned Princess Leia she was on board!

For Tayden's I made a ham and cheese quesadilla and then used a knife to cut it out in a Yoda shape (my husband says the ears are too small.  Next time I will have to have him cut it out!)  I used a green food markers to color the ears and the mouth and used icing eyes.  I gave him a green light saber.

I put a Clone ring on a carrot and a Darth Vader ring on a celery stick.  I used another light saber as a pick for some grapes.  He also got some Star Wars gummies and some Outer Space Goldfish Crackers.

Ady also has a ham and cheese quesadilla, but hers is cut in a circle for a face and then I cut out two smaller circles for Princess Leia's famous buns.  I colored them with a brown food markers, gave her some red lips with a food marker and some icing eyes.  Since she is a princess she also got a crown cupcake pick.  

Again we have a Darth Vader carrot with a celery Clone, some grapes on a light saber, star wars gummies and Space themed Goldfish crackers.

Lunches Lately - Ghosts

Here is a look at what Ady took in her lunch on Monday

Ham and cheese with a ghost cut out from some Havarti cheese and food marker eyes drawn on, grapes on ghost picks, Halloween shapes pretzels with havarti cheese ghost ( I actually used a jingle bell cookie cutter to make this ghost!)  and some ghost marshmallows with a few chocolate chips.

Weekend Lunch Fun - Sticks and Outer Space

Kyler likes to eat the school lunch most of the time, so I rarely get the opportunity to pack a fun lunch for him.  Yesterday he told me that he would like a Muffin Tin Lunch since he never gets a fun lunch from me.  I had been thinking of doing a "stick" theme so I tried it out on him.

I made a rolled up sandwich for him and cut it into "sticks", he has a cheese stick some Oreo sticks, a few grapes on Halloween "sticks" and some carrot sticks with ranch to dip them in.  It was easy and he liked that I took the time to make it special for him.  

When Tayden saw that I was willing to make fun lunches, he asked for a Space lunch.  I had some space theme goldfish crackers that he had been wanting to open, so I started trying to think of how to do a space sandwich.  This is what I came up with.

I cut a sandwich into triangles and arranged them to sort of look like a rocket.  I added a bit of ham and cheese for the flames.  He also has the space goldfish crackers, some moon and meteor marshmallows (I used the moon marshmallows from the Halloween ones and the meteors are chocolate marshmallows).  I needed to add some fruit so I at first thought of using green grapes as martians, but Tayden only likes red grapes so I was going to use them as meteors.  Then I saw the little animal food picks and decided to use the green ones to be aliens.

I think it turned out cute!

Angry Birds Pizzas

My kids saw this Angry Birds Pizza I had pinned on Pinterest (here) and decided that I should make it for them for dinner.  After making excuses a few times I finally decided to give it a try. 

First of all, I am so bummed that I did not take pics BEFORE I baked.  SOme of the details that I spent so much time on were lost because, DUH, cheese melts!  Ooops! :) 

They did still turn out pretty cute and they vaguely resemble Angry Birds, so I will take it as a learning experience!  The kids loved them and thought they were awesome and that is all that matters anyway. 

I made them on pita bread and used basically the same ingredients for all 6.  The white part of the eyes are made from circles of white cheddar cheese and the black for the eyes and eyebrows is Nori.  I used carrots for the beaks and feathers.

To cut out the circles from the Nori I used my circle punches for scrapbooking.   It actually worked really well!

The Black bird is made from black olives.  It's a good thing I love olives on pizza and I have been craving them!  The kids were not interested in this one!

The White birds are just cheese.

The Red birds are made with mini pepperonis

I made the Yellow bird with cheddar cheese.

I wish you could have seen them before all the cute details got melted (especially the black one)  I will have to try making them again.

It was a fun lunch and the kids enjoyed it.  It was actually quick and easy too with the pita crusts.

Halloween Muffin Tin Meals

I made this meal one evening for Ady. This is our first Muffin Tin Meal! (MTM)  

Starting on the top left she had some orange Jelly Bellys, tiny ham and cheese sandwiches cut into pumpkins.  I used a food marker on the top one to make a Jack O'Lantern.  Next she has some Cheez-Its.  On the bottom row she has some peach yogurt with fall leaves sprinkles, some fruit leather cut into pumpkins and some strawberry applesauce with fall leaves sprinkles.  

It is a fun way to serve up lots of small foods!

The kids are on Fall Break from school so I had to feed them lunch at home.  I only have one small muffin tin, so I decided to make a big MTM for the 3 older kids to share.  They liked having lots of finger foods to munch on!

On the top row are carrots, ranch dressing to dip, graham crackers, and some chocolate chips and Halloween shapes marshmallows.  They enjoyed making some mini s'mores.

On the next row I made some String Cheese Mummies. I cut the string cheese in half and then used another string cheese stick that I pulled apart to wrap around to look like bandages.  I used a food marker for some eyes.  Next up is Halloween shapes pretzels and then some red grapes with a ghost pick.

On the bottom row are some Trader Joe's Cats Cookies ( I was hoping they would count as Black Cats to go with the Halloween theme!).  Next is some ham rolled up to eat with the pretzels and the cheese.  Then we have some Halloween gummies and lastly, some green grapes with some Halloween picks.

It worked out pretty good having the kids share a bigger muffin tin.  It was a bit challenging to try to think of things to fill in each cup with though.  I think I will look for some inexpensive muffin tins so they can each have their own next time we do this.  The muffin tins would be a fun way to eat snacks during a family movie night as well.

Lunches Lately - Pigs, Princess, Penguins and Pumpkins

I posted a picture of these Piggy Sandwiches previously, but it was in a birthday post, so I thought some people may not have seen it.  

I made these for Ady for her birthday dinner (per her request).

I cut the sandwiches into circles, cut an oval from ham for the nose.  I added a few sprinkles for nostrils, Nori for the mouths, sliced, boiled eggs for the eyes along with edible eyes.  I used some cheddar cheese for the ears.  I served them with sugar snap peas. 

Here is a Princess Lunch that I made for Ady today.  I made her sandwich into a circle for the face and then used edible eyes, a heart shaped sprinkle for the nose and cut a fruit leather smile.  I used a crown cookie cutter
and embellished it with heart sprinkles and a toy ring.  The scepter is a Pocky stick with a Fruit Leather heart.  I served it with some yogurt with a few heart sprinkles and some grapes.

Yesterday Ady went on a field trip to the Zoo.  Dave went along as a chaperone.  Ady requested a zoo animal lunch to take with her.  Everything had to be able to be thrown away when they were done, so it is not nearly as cute as it would be, but here is what we came up with.

This one is Ady's.  I used my penguin sandwich cutter again.  This time I added Fruit Leather to make it look more like a penguin.  I also included some Doritos, iced animal crackers, some mini M&Ms and apple and a Danimals crush cup. I am not sure why field trip lunch turned into junk food lunch, but there you go :)

Dave had pretty much the same thing except he got Peanut M&Ms.  I think the Penguins turned out cute!

Here is another attempt at a Halloween Lunch for Ady.  I did mostly orange things.  She has a little cup of mac and cheese with a little orange doggy food pick and a Jack O' Lantern Cupcake Pick.  To the right of that is a little cup of Cheez-its. Below that is a No Bake Chocolate Cookie (Recipe here) with some pumpkin shaped sprinkles.  Next to that is a little cup of ranch dressing for the carrots in the cup below that.  She also had a sandwich cut into a pumpkin shape.  I cut out some eyes and a mouth to make it into a Jack O' Lantern and used a food marker to color it in.  On the right is one of my Halloween Lunchbox Notes (free printable here!)
